Vygotsky’s Theory of Social Cultural Development
Vygotsky’s Theory of Social Cultural Development
According to him Social development , Physical development , Cognitive development is the result of three things:
· social Interaction ( Samajik Sampark )
· Culture ( Sanskriti)
· Language ( Bhasha )
All the new things he learn from
· Imitative Learning
· Reciprocal Learning
· Collaborative Learning
· Corporative Learning
· Learnig by doing
This all learning ways are possible due to learning through Social Interaction.
MKO ( More Knowledgeable Other)
Someone who( teacher , peers , machine say computer ,online system ) has better knowlwdge concept , ideas , experiences etc. can be MKO.
ZPD ( Zone of Proximal Development)
It is a gap/ range of time which tell that the child can’t do this but with assistance he can do the task.
Say a child can’t write an english alphabet say “A”. Suppose a MKO (say teacher ) assists the child to write the letter till he write by his own, this gap from not own to ownself called ZPD.
Vygotsky's Sociocultural Theory of Cognitive Development |
Let us understand with the diagram suggested by Vygotsky-
1.Lower Limit
A child can do the work by his own.
2.Higher Limit ( Interpsychology limit)
The child require someone assistance.
Here the blue portion represents those work, for which the child is not eligible. While pink region represent for which he need help and can complete the work .At last the green portion, work can be done by the child easy and own.
Scaffolding
A scaffolding is a support / help given by a person to the child to do a work.
It is a temporary as it decrease or ends when the child get expert in performing the task/work.
The main purpose if providing scaffolding is to change the behaviours and increment in ability.
Scaffolding is the minimum support /help (as guide or motivate ) given to a child to attend ZPD or to developed his capability so that he can do it by own.
Adult play vital role in the development of child’s behaviour through scaffolding.
Note :
Innertilization / Self talk / Private speech : In this ,the child guide themself by talking themselves.
